An asterisk (*) beside a letter grade indicates developmental coursework. Institutional credit only.

A percent sign (%) beside a letter grade indicates the student was granted an academic fresh start and does not count in GPA calculations.

A number sign (#) beside a “W” grade indicates the student was administratively withdrawn and does not count in the GPA calculation.

A circumflex accent (^) beside a letter grade indicates ENG/MAT Support Corequisite passed.

An overall “C” average is required for graduation. A “C” average on a 4.00 Quality Point Scale is a 2.00 Quality Point Average.

The North Carolina Community College System converted from the Quarter System to the Semester System in 1997.

Calculating Grade Point Average (GPA)

To compute your cumulative average, multiply credit hours by grade value to calculate the total grade points for each course. Divide the total grade points for all courses by the total number of enrolled credit hours (reference Grading System Policy 401-02-05AP).
